LGBT Sex Therapy

Sex Therapy and Mental Health Counseling for the Gay and Lesbian Community in Denver, Colorado:

Contrary to stereotypes, sexual expression and function in Gay and Lesbian individuals and couples are as, or more, vulnerable to ignorance and distress, compared to the heterosexual community due to:

  • Lack of appropriate gay-identified sexual information.
  • Depression, isolation, and loneliness due to homophobia.
  • Lack of social or family support.
  • Reluctance to talk to health professionals due to fears of discrimination or concerns about confidentiality.
  • Untrained health care providers, leading to reduced standards of care.
  • Assumptions about the health risks of LGBT persons by health care providers.
  • Higher risk of drug and alcohol use with sexual activity.
  • HIV-related fears and issues.

Silence about sexual issues is the great killer of relationships. It is common for people to encounter sexual problems, at any age. Women may experience arousal and orgasm difficulties, low sex drive, or pain during intercourse, while men may struggle with erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, and low libido. What is uncommon is for people to speak and do something about those problems before they irreparably damage their self-esteem and relationships. To learn more about Sex Therapy options, click here.
